Children’s House

Children begin our Children's House Program at approximately 33 months of age and remain in the same mixed-age Montessori classroom through kindergarten. During these important early years, children develop independence, confidence, academic readiness, and a genuine love of learning. Our individualized Montessori approach allows every child to progress at their own pace while building the skills they need for elementary school and beyond.
Overview

About The Children's House Program

Montessori education is built around the individual child. After introducing new lessons and materials, our teachers carefully observe each student’s progress and present new challenges when they are ready. Rather than moving every child through the same curriculum at the same pace, each student advances according to their own abilities, allowing them to develop confidence while mastering every subject area.

Child Development

Learning During Sensitive Periods

Children naturally experience sensitive periods, stages of development when they are especially ready to learn specific skills. Our classrooms are thoughtfully prepared to support these important windows of growth.

For example, during the preschool years children naturally develop the hand strength and coordination needed for writing. The Practical Life and Sensorial areas of the Montessori classroom provide purposeful activities that strengthen these skills while building concentration, independence, and confidence.

Individualized Learning

The Child Is at the Center of the Classroom

In a Montessori classroom, the child is the focus of learning rather than the teacher. Our teachers serve as guides, introducing new lessons, observing progress, and encouraging each child to reach their full potential.

This individualized approach allows children to develop confidence while discovering the joy of learning for themselves.

Building Independence

Freedom With Responsibility

Children are encouraged to make meaningful choices throughout their school day while learning that freedom comes with responsibility. Students select much of their own work within the structure of the Montessori curriculum, complete expected lessons, and learn to respect their classmates and classroom environment.

This balance of independence and accountability helps children become confident, self-motivated learners.

Personalized Growth

Advancing at Their Own Pace

Every child develops differently, and Montessori education embraces those differences.

It is common for one child to advance quickly in mathematics while another excels in language or science. Because instruction is individualized, children are free to progress at the pace that is right for them in every subject. This allows each student to build a strong understanding of concepts before moving on to new challenges.

Classroom Materials

Multi-Sensory

Dr. Maria Montessori developed her method through careful observation of children. She noted that learning is enhanced through the use of attractive, multi-sensory materials (materials that utilize two or more senses while isolating a single attribute, such as color or texture). Our children experience different textures, different sounds, different shades of color, and different shapes in many of the materials presented.

Integrated & Fundamental

Classroom materials flow in a logical sequence to ensure a full and proper understanding of the subject matter. Our students are comfortable and confident with new work and higher concepts as they are introduced. A lesson in geography may also involve mathematics and history, a feature of Montessori education that assists with more thorough learning.

Self-Correcting

Self-correcting materials allow a child to see for himself if he has obtained a correct answer, freeing the teacher to introduce more work to other children. Being able to correct one’s own answers promotes independence because the child sees that he can do it himself. Independence leads to confidence, which is so essential for the development of self-esteem and goal directed action.
